The University of Huddersfield (informally Huddersfield University) is a public university located in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. It has been a University since 1992, but has its origins in a series of institutions dating back to the 19th century. It has made teaching quality a particular focus of its activities, winning the inaugural Higher Education Academy Global Teaching Excellence Award, and achieving a Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) Gold Award, both in 2017.
Minimum entry requirements for first degree courses
We’re looking for people who have one or more of the following level 3 qualifications:
Passes in five subjects at GCE/GSCE which must include at least two subjects at Advanced Level*
Scottish Highers and Advanced Highers
BTEC and OCR Level 3 Extended Diploma
BTEC and OCR National Award, Certificate, Subsidiary Diploma or Diploma
International, European or Welsh Baccalaureate
Access to HE Diploma with at least 45 Level 3 credits achieved at Merit
Irish Leaving certificate with Grade H6 or above in four subjects at Higher Level
Cambridge Pre-U Diploma
Note: * Must not include an Advanced Subsidiary GCE (AS Level) in the same subject as an Advanced GCE (A Level)
Extended Project Qualification
The University of Huddersfield welcomes applications from students who have taken an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). We believe that the skills that students develop through the EPQ are directly relevant to and useful for university level study. For the majority of our courses, we will make offers which can include the UCAS Tariff points gained from the EPQ; but please check our course-specific web pages for the specific entry requirements for the courses you are interested in.
Acceptance of additional UCAS points
In addition to those published on the UCAS Tariff, The University of Huddersfield will accept UCAS points from a number of schemes. The University operates two of its own schemes: The Progression Module and Headstart Huddersfield.
The Progression Module
The Progression Module is a structured Higher Education and employment preparation programme for sixth form and college students. The scheme awards 12 UCAS points and is open to Year 12 students in registered schools and colleges.
Headstart Huddersfield
Headstart Huddersfield offers eligible students, interested in applying to the University of Huddersfield, the opportunity to gain extra UCAS points.
The scheme awards 8 UCAS points and is open to eligible Year 12 students (widening participation eligibility criteria is applied).
Schemes operated by other higher education institutions
The University of Huddersfield will accept up to 8 UCAS points from any official scheme offering UCAS points to applicants, operated by a UK Higher Education institution.
Huddersfield has great accommodation for students. Book with our preferred, recommended and approved accommodation provider, DIGS Student, and be guaranteed a room in halls of residence.
In addition to our preferred, recommended and approved supplier of student accommodation there are a number of options for students in Huddersfield, as listed on the Huddersfield Students’ Union webpages. These include halls operated by iQ Student Accommodation (Aspley House, Little Aspley House and Castings House) and Unite Students (Saw Mill, Snow Island and Firth Point).
